QR code mobile tickets are live tickets that update periodically, but they do not require a constant WiFi or data connection in order to work.
An internet connection through data or WiFi is required when you first activate your ticket.
You will also need to be connected to data or WiFi every 3 days for any longer-term tickets to reconnect so you can continue to use them, this is to verify that the ticket is still valid for travel.
